Color Kit Online
UCLA Color Palette PDF. For reference, we've provided
a one-page PDF file that gives the formulas for the identity colors
(blue and gold) and for secondary palettes.
Important! After evaluating printed samples, we've
made some adjustments to the color specifications. Please do
not use specifications issued prior to Wednesday, September
8, 2004.
Adobe Illustrator. You can add the UCLA palette
to your swatch libraries. Download the "AI Palette" at
right. Then put it in Program Files>Adobe>Illustrator>Swatch
Libraries. That will make it available on the Illustrator menu (Window>Swatch
Libraries>ucla_color_lib).
Note to Macintosh users: for both Illustrator and Photoshop,
your Adobe folder will probably be in Applications, the Mac equivalent
of Program Files. Otherwise the directions are identical.
Adobe Photoshop. You can add the UCLA
color palette to your swatch libraries in either CMYK or RGB format,
or both. (CMYK is the four-color process used for commercial printing;
RGB is used for on-line art and much desktop printing.) Download
the ACO swatch files at right. Then put them in Program Files>Adobe>Photoshop>Presets>Color
Swatches. That will make them available in Photoshop (Window>Swatches.
Use the swatches palette menu to replace the default swatches with
UCLA colors).
Limitations of Desktop Printing. If you are using
a desktop printer for your final output, you may need to adjust
the color formulas for your own use. Use a Pantone color swatch
of UCLA blue, or a printed sample that's color-accurate, and try
various formulas until you achieve a close visual match. Unfortunately
every printer tends to produce different print-outs of the same
color.
