UCLA Signature

In most cases, the UCLA identity combines the logo with the name of an academic or administrative unit: the combination is called the UCLA signature.

The names of major or “tier 1” units appear in Big Caslon, all capitals. The names of “tier 2” units appear in Big Caslon, upper and lower case. If the names of sub-units are used, they appear in Caslon 540 Italic. (For a listing of the top-tier units, see Academic, Administrative, and Consumer.)

Qualified UCLA users can get licensed copies of the Big Caslon and Caslon 540 italic fonts from University Communications. Use the Request Form in Resources.

If you do not qualify for a University Communications font license, you may purchase Big Caslon from www.fontbureau.com; Caslon 540 italic is available from www.adobe.com.

The signature requires very precise spacing. See the details in the Manual or use an Adobe Illustrator template. The Illustrator templates require that you have the Big Caslon and Caslon 540 italic fonts installed.
