DOs and DONTs

You’ll find detailed information in the Graphic Standards manual, but here are some basic principles to get you started:

DOs

  • Always use original digital art work for the UCLA logo. It’s available in the Downloads section.
  • Whenever possible, use UCLA blue for the logo. If you can’t use blue, use black or white.
  • Use the logo and signature consistently, according to the guidelines.
  • Give first priority to re-designing print materials and web sites that create the most impressions (wide distribution, long span of use, lots of web traffic).

DON'Ts

  • Don't throw away existing materials. Instead, phase in the new UCLA graphic identity over time.
  • Never re-draw or scan the UCLA logo, alter its shape with filters or other software, or try to re-create it using a font.
  • Don't stack the UCLA logo over or under other design elements. (But if you have a busy background, you can put the logo in a neutral-colored panel.)
  • Don't combine the UCLA logo with other logos or symbols.
  • Don't use the UCLA logo on merchandise without involving UCLA Trademarks & Licensing — even if the merchandise will be given away.
